A 63-year-old woman was brazenly shot in the leg Saturday outside her apartment after taking out her garbage in the Bronx, officials said.
The victim was just returning to her apartment after taking out some trash when she was shot on the first floor around 9:01 a.m. near E. 197th St. and Briggs Ave. in Bedford Park.
The gunman took off and no arrests were made.
“All we heard was a gunshot,” one resident said.

Another resident said, after hearing the gunshot, they came outside of their unit and “saw our neighbor on the floor.” The victim is a longtime resident who is well known throughout the building, the neighbor said.
An apparent gunshot hole was visible in the victim’s door and some scraps of mail or packaging on the floor were covered in what looked like blood.
EMS transported the victim to St. Barnabas hospital where she was in stable condition.
Investigators believe the gunman shot the woman in retaliation for something her son did. The son was not home at the time of the shooting, police sources said.
