An 18-year-old accused of sexually abusing a mother by inserting his fingers inside her as she rode a NYC subway train with four children in tow has been arrested, police said Wednesday.
Ari Shtein surrendered with his lawyer and was charged Wednesday with aggravated sexual abuse and four counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
The kids were with the 30-year-old victim when the incident happened, 3 p.m. on June 28 on a northbound R train as it approached the W. 28th St. station, police said.
Shtein was standing behind the victim in a crowded subway car when he allegedly “proceeded to place his two fingers inside of her vagina,” according to the criminal complaint against him.
The victim told police she did not consent to the act.
The children, who ranged in age from 7 to eleven years old, were present during the incident but were not hurt, the complaint states.
The victim got off the train at W. 28th St. and reported the attack to police. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Cops later released to the media a photo of the suspect that was taken on the train.
Shtein has a Washington, D.C. address but it wasn’t immediately clear if he lives there or in New York City.
He has no arrest record in the city.
Shtein is being represented by attorney Priya Chaudhry, who could not be reached for comment.
Prosecutors requested bail set at $5K cash or $10K bond. Shtein was released on his own recognizance. His next court date is August 26.
