New York City could be hit with another winter storm this weekend, though meteorologists currently project it to be “the nearest of misses.”
The coastal system is forming south of the city over the Atlantic Ocean and could bring significant snowfall to the Carolinas and Virginia, the National Weather Service warned Wednesday.
But a slight change in the storm’s path could bring more snow to the five boroughs and their suburbs, with eastern Long Island in the most danger, experts said.
Any change “would have massive consequences in terms of sensible weather, especially further east across the region,” NWS forecasters wrote Wednesday. “Strong winds remain a distinct possibility, especially further east. Stay tuned because changes in the forecast for the second half of the weekend remain in play.”

If the storm does hit New York, it will likely occur beginning Saturday night into Sunday and possibly through Sunday night, meteorologists predicted.
Whether the storm arrives or not, New York is expected to see bone chilling temperatures Thursday through Saturday, with lows on Friday night dropping to 0 degrees with a wind chill of -10 degrees.
Temperatures could finally rise into the low 30s next Monday and Tuesday but are expected to remain below freezing across the region until then.
If snow does fall during the upcoming weekend, it would be the second straight helping of powder for the city, which recorded 11.4 inches of snow in Central Park from last Sunday’s storm, the most snowfall in five years.
