When Jeff and Angelo talk about Camp Nakamoto, they don’t start with ticket sales or big-name speakers. They talk about family. About meaningful conversations.

About an island in the middle of a lake where Bitcoiners and their families can disconnect from technology to reconnect with each other.

“I went all in when Saylor made his initial investment in August of 2020,” Jeff explains. “Read every book possible, every podcast possible, all that junk. And I’m fully down the rabbit hole, I’m continuing down the deep rabbit hole.”

For Angelo, the journey was strikingly similar. “It was definitely COVID in March and April of 2020 that I looked at the world and I was like ‘Holy cow,’” he recalls. “That’s when I really started my journey down the rabbit hole.”

But something was missing for both of them: real-world connections.

“After 3 or 4 years of being a Bitcoiner, my only interaction with other Bitcoiners was online,” Angelo shares.

“At that point I was deep in the rabbit hole, a big chunk of my net worth had been transferred to bitcoin, I loved it and I didn’t know another soul in real life who was in the same position. I was driving my family nuts.”

That’s when Angelo decided to attend his first Bitcoin meetup, MassAdoption, and that’s where he met Jeff.

During their conversation, Angelo mentioned he was the director of a camp, and Jeff immediately saw the opportunity, “What a great place to throw a Bitcoin retreat, hence Camp Nakamoto was born.”

More Than Just Another Bitcoin Event

Unlike typical Bitcoin conferences with back-to-back presentations and networking sessions, Camp Nakamoto offers something different; a rustic retreat on Sandy Island, where families can gather in cabins by the lake, away from the constant distractions of modern life.

“The primary focus generally speaking is making money,” Angelo notes about typical entrepreneurial ventures. “And in this case that’s really not the primary focus. The primary focus is to create something in the Bitcoin universe. Truly that’s the primary mission.”

Jeff echoes this sentiment emphatically: “Profit is not our number one incentive here. We get all these great like-minded people together and they walk away with something much bigger that affects the soul.”

He added: “This is soul-changing. We want this to be an annual event that is actually accretive to the soul. I mean, it just builds you as a human.”

The Magic of Shared Meals and Real Connections

One of the most powerful aspects of the Camp Nakamoto experience is the community dining hall, where everyone on the island gathers for meals three times a day.

“There’s a bell that rings at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And everybody on the island files into the dining hall at the same time,” Angelo explains. “It creates this in-person touch point that happens. You wake up, you eat with 180 people.”

“You’re like ‘What are you gonna do today?’ Then you go off and you do your breakfast, then you meet up at lunch again, ‘How’s it going, what do you want to do this afternoon?’ and then you do your afternoon, you meet up again for dinner.”

These regular face-to-face interactions create a rhythm that fosters genuine connections. Something that’s increasingly rare in today’s digital world.

The Teamwork Behind the Magic

While Camp Nakamoto may seem like a simple concept, Bitcoiners gathering on an island, the logistics are anything but simple. Fortunately, both founders bring complementary skills to the table.

“I’m so grateful actually to be working with Jeff because from my perspective, the hardest part is something that Jeff is bringing to the table in spades,” Angelo says. “Running the island, we got it dialed in. We know what we’re doing.”

With five years of experience managing Sandy Island, Angelo has mastered the complex logistics of island operations.

“The logistics of getting people on and off, luggage on and off, food on and off, trash off, linens on and linens off, the logistics, you just can’t imagine how much it is. But I’ve got a group of people who this is their gig, and they love it.”

Jeff, with his extensive entrepreneurial background, handles the Bitcoin community connections. “I’ve been an entrepreneur for probably close to 40 years and this is just another entrepreneurial venture. It’s just part of my DNA.”

The success of their previous events, including two Freedom Festivals, has built their confidence. “Pulling off two Freedom Festivals gave me total confidence in our crew,” Jeff says. “Everyone brings something unique to the table, and when we come together, it’s way bigger than the sum of our parts.”

Being Part of Bitcoin History

When prompted to share what question they’d pose to Satoshi Nakamoto if given the opportunity, the founders had humorous responses. Jeff quipped, “I just want to make sure he’s not part of the CIA,” while Angelo joked, “Are you married? I wouldn’t mind having all his bitcoin in our family wealth.”

But beyond the humor, there’s a profound understanding that they’re creating something historic. “I envision this, if everything goes the way we think it’s going, this is part of history,” Jeff emphasizes. “Get off your couch and be part of history. Get involved with life and literally be a part of Bitcoin history.”

Camp Nakamoto aims to be more than just another Bitcoin event. These two founders and their team are offering Bitcoiners—and pre-coiners—a chance to disconnect from technology and reconnect with what matters: family, community, and the revolutionary ideas driving Bitcoin forward.

As screens and artificial intelligence increasingly dominate our lives, this retreat offers a rare opportunity to step back, breathe fresh air, and remember what being human is all about.

For those interested in joining this unique Bitcoin family retreat, Camp Nakamoto will be held in October on Sandy Island. Angelo said it best:
