Black Ops 7 May Soon Share Good News for Nintendo Switch 2 Users

Summary

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 may launch on the Nintendo Switch 2.

A new report claims Microsoft is working with Nintendo to bring the shooter to the latter’s new console.

Microsoft entered a 10-year commitment with Nintendo in 2022 to bring Call of Duty to its consoles.

A journalist has claimed that Microsoft is actively working with Nintendo to bring the recently revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 to the Switch 2. The first official trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was shown to the world during the recent Xbox Games Showcase, and while the shooter will still be making its way to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Nintendo fans were left disappointed as Activision made no mention of a release on the company’s new console, the Switch 2.

After eight long years, Nintendo finally released its successor to the Switch earlier this month, aptly named the Nintendo Switch 2. The console features some massive upgrades compared to its predecessor, with a new 7.9-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR support, as well as 12GB of RAM and a custom NVIDIA Tegra T239 processor. These big improvements mean the console has been able to ship with some of gaming’s most demanding triple-A titles, including Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, Split Fiction, and more. Although yet to be confirmed, it looks like the line-up of games for the Switch 2 could be about to get even better, as the next Call of Duty game may also be coming to the console.

There’s Still Hope for Black Ops 7 on the Nintendo Switch 2

Back in 2022, during Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision-Blizzard, the studio entered a 10-year commitment with Nintendo to bring Call of Duty to the company’s consoles. With the deal now finalized, fans were hoping to see a Nintendo Switch 2 logo featured at the end of the recent Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 reveal trailer, but that wasn’t the case. However, all hope is not lost, as a report from Kotaku claims that both Microsoft and Nintendo are “still committed” to getting the franchise on the latter’s hardware. Reporter Ethan Gach then took to Twitter following his report and claimed that an announcement will come “in the future.” How long it may be until that announcement is made remains a mystery.

While there is still plenty to be revealed about the next Call of Duty title, the game’s first official teaser trailer did confirm a disappointing rumor that Black Ops 7 will launch for the PS4 and Xbox One. Despite the fact that the two consoles are now over twelve years old, Activision appears to remain committed to bringing new Call of Duty games to the ageing hardware. However, this may be a good sign for Nintendo Switch 2 users, as a release on last-generation consoles most certainly means that Treyarch Studios and Raven Software will have the capability to bring the shooter to Nintendo’s newest console.

A release date for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is currently unknown, but there’s a strong chance that it follows the series’ annual tradition of launching in late October/early November. With marketing for the shooter now underway, more details are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks and months. In fact, some fans believe that a full reveal for Black Ops 7 will take place on June 20 after discovering a hidden teaser in the game’s first trailer.
