Borderlands 4 Creative Director Graeme Timmins has confirmed that a fix for Rafa’s Soltado skill is on the way soon. Borderlands 4 has enjoyed a very successful launch, with it topping the US sales charts in September and with it being the highest-earning launch in Borderlands franchise history, according to a recent report from Circana’s Mat Piscatella.
But Borderlands 4’s launch hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows. Despite its impressive launch sales and decent critical reception, Borderlands 4 has been plagued by technical issues since day one, especially on PC. Developer Gearbox has delivered seven major updates over the last six weeks, with another set to launch later today. This upcoming Borderlands 4 update is bringing some divisive nerfs to some of Borderlands 4’s most popular builds, such as the Vex infinite bleed build and the crit knife build.
Borderlands 4 Is Fixing Rafa’s Soltado Issue, But Not Yet
But one thing that definitely won’t be addressed in Borderlands 4’s October 23 patch is Rafa’s Soltado glitch. On September 19, Borderlands 4 support user Templar raised a concern that Rafa’s Soltado skill wasn’t working as it should.
For those unfamiliar with Rafa’s skills, Soltado doubles all of Rafa’s Overdrive bonuses for eight seconds. Overdrive activates whenever Rafa uses an Action Skill, giving the Vault Hunter increased damage and movement speed. So, essentially, Soltado doubles the damage and movement speed increased with Overdrive.
The issue is that Soltado is only currently benefitting from one skill point, meaning it doesn’t receive any additional stat buffs from Class Mods like Rafa’s Devastating Dancer Legendary Class Mod. Devastating Dancer is meant to increase Overdrive’s effects by 100%, essentially adding another skill point to Soltado. Even with this Class Mod equipped, Soltado is currently only benefitting from one skill point.
Templar’s September 19 support request received a response from Gearbox on October 21, who stated the issue is “planned to be addressed in a future update.” On October 22, Borderlands 4 Creative Director Graeme Timmins took to X to promote a Shacknews documentary on the making of Borderlands 4, and in the replies X user @fespiesz asked if there was any news regarding the Rafa Soltado fix. Timmins replied saying that a fix didn’t make it in time for Borderlands 4’s October 23 patch, but that a fix is coming in a “future patch instead.”
In the grand scheme of Borderlands 4’s technical issues, Rafa’s Soltado bug is likely far from Gearbox’s top priority, but it’s great to hear that this issue has been officially recognized by the dev team, and that a fix is on the way soon.
