A 13-year-old boy sought for giving a teen Bronx murder suspect the gun used to shoot an innocent 16-year-old girl was arrested Monday, police sources said.
The boy was tracked to a family friend’s home on E. 166th St. near Tinton Ave., about two blocks south of the murder scene, and taken into police custody. He has not yet been charged.
Police have been looking for him since Evette Jeffrey was struck by a stray bullet last Monday afternoon in a gang-related shooting at Home St. and Tinton Ave.
Police the next day arrested a 14-year-old boy for murder — and said they were still looking for the suspect who handed the shooter the murder weapon.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said the violence was sparked by an earlier fistfight involving the shooter.
That clash was between two local street gangs, KOD — Kreep on Davidson — and FOE — Forest Over Everything, Kenny said.
The shooter was involved in an “old-school fistfight” in the schoolyard at that location and “was the winner of the fight,” Kenny said.
But as he and his friends exited a walkway near the schoolyard at 5 p.m. Monday, a rival not involved in the earlier dustup ran up and punched the shooter in the face.
When the shooter fell to the ground from the punch his friend passed him a gun.
The shooter opened fire with that weapon, aiming for the puncher but hitting Evette in the head instead.
“The victim was not involved,” Kenny said of Evette. “She was an innocent bystander who was simply trying to take cover behind a brick wall and was struck in the head by one of the rounds.”
