This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.

One Piece’s Elbaf arc has been underway for over a year now, and with each passing chapter, fans are getting some of the most exciting reveals. Quite clearly, one of the biggest reveals that Oda has been setting up ever since the arc began pertains to Loki’s Devil Fruit.

It is no surprise to know that legendary Devil Fruits get a lot of attention in One Piece arcs. After all, Devil Fruits form the primary power system of the One Piece world, and they are known to be treasures of the sea. Given their importance to the overarching plot of One Piece, it only makes sense for Oda to give them special highlights, and that is precisely why Loki’s Devil Fruit ability has received so much attention over the last few months.

One Piece Oda Reveals Elbaf's Main Villain is Loki Not Imu

1 Year Later, One Piece Author Oda Reveals Elbaf’s Main Villain, And It’s Not Imu

Imu won’t be Elbaf’s main villain. The real enemy will shock fans in One Piece.

Still up until now, Oda has only revealed bits and pieces about Loki’s powers. While it is clearly said that Loki can destroy the world, what ability he truly possesses has not been revealed. But, One Piece chapter 1171 changes that greatly. For the very first time, Oda has not only revealed Loki’s Devil Fruit-powered attacks, but also key abilities of his fruit, and with that, fans can truly guess what power he holds up his sleeve.

Loki consumed his fruit 14 years ago

Loki holds the power of a Mythical Zoan fruit

The very first tease for Loki’s Devil Fruit ability came in One Piece Chapter 1170. As fans know, this was the chapter in which the chaotic battle in Aurust Castle took place, 14 years ago. Fans got to see Loki consume the Devil Fruit of Elbaf after beating Ragnir, and then taking on Harald in combat. Clearly, he transformed into some sort of creature immediately following the consumption of his Devil Fruit. This means that Loki holds a Mythical Zoan power up his sleeve. This Mythical Zoan power made him quite overpowered, so much so that he could even overwhelm King Harald in terms of strength.

Loki, show me the power of the legendary Devil Fruit of Elbaf already! — Harald to Loki, One Piece chapter 1170

To put that into perspective, fans should remember that King Harald, at this point in time, was stronger than Rocks D. Xebec, and for Loki to overpower him must mean that he should be around or above the level of the Pirate King. In fact, Loki became the first person to actually kill a Holy Knight, and this is something that not even Roger and his crew managed to achieve, given that Gaban was shocked at learning that this was even possible.

Even Imu was seen incredibly strained after the death of Harald, which points towards Loki having dealt damage to Imu as well. Imu was so scared that he did not even want to send another Holy Knight to Elbaf, fearing their loss as well, which would reduce their own power.

Loki Can Fly Using His Devil Fruit Power

As was quite clear from One Piece Chapter 1170, fans could tell that Loki had a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit that allowed him to transform into some sort of creature with sharp claws. The power of the fruit offered was so great that even Imu would’ve been injured with it.

Don’t worry about me. I’ll just fly up there. For now, this monster serves as a good warm-up. — Loki to the others in One Piece Chapter 1171

Joy Boy is One Piece’s strongest haki user. These characters, however, could potentially rival him in that regard.

Now, moving on to One Piece Chapter 1171, Oda has revealed a key detail about his Devil Fruit powers. Loki clearly stated that he doesn’t need the ship to go back to the Sun Realm of Elbaf because he can fly. He was the one who wanted to take care of the Draugr by himself, and Luffy stayed with him, meaning that the two will make an appearance together in the Sun Realm in the upcoming chapters.

The fact that Loki can fly limits the options that Oda could go for, as far as his Devil Fruit is concerned. Whatever mythical creature Loki can transform into likely has giant wings that enable him to fly, they also have sharp claws, and at the same time, overwhelming strength.

On top of all this, fans also know very well that Loki can use elemental powers as well. For instance, with the swing of his hammer, Loki can bring down lightning, and this is likely connected to the Devil Fruit itself, given that Ragnir should not be capable of generating lightning.

Fans also saw Loki use his powers to freeze the Draugr in One Piece chapter 1171 with an attack called Niflheim, but this is likely a power of Ragnir. As such, Loki has the powers of lightning, and ice that stems from his hammer. All these things taken into consideration only lead fans to one conclusion, and that’s Loki is some sort of giant dragon.

Loki’s Devil Fruit Is Likely The Niddhogg Dragon

Loki can fly and has sharp claws

He can generate lightning like the Niddhogg

Taking everything that Oda has revealed about Loki’s Devil Fruit ability so far into account, it is quite clear to see that Loki is the Niddhogg dragon from Norse Mythology. This dragon is said to have been chained to the roots of the Yggdrasil tree, and Loki was similarly chained to the roots of the Adam Tree. Similarly, Loki can fly and has sharp claws and a giant body, and that is befitting a dragon. Loki also manipulates lightning, and Oda himself called Niddhogg the lightning dragon in the Elbaf arc.

Of course, the ice abilities are somewhat confusing, but given that Loki spoke to Ragnir in the previous chapter before unleashing Niflheim, it is clear that this power belongs to the hammer and not Loki himself.

While there is still a possibility that Oda is using the Nidhogg dragon as a red herring, the chances of that being the case are very low. Fenrir was another popular suggestion among the fans. But, given that Loki clearly said that he can fly, it is highly unlikely for it to be a wolf-related power. At this point, all signs point towards Loki being the Nidhogg Dragon, and that makes sense, given that a lot of focus has actually been put on Western dragons in One Piece.

Vegapunk tried to recreate Western dragons in Punk Hazard, and the World Government themselves use western dragon’s hoofs as a symbol of superiority. Perhaps, Western dragons are that much more dangerous and powerful in the One Piece world, and Loki having the power of the strongest of them all makes him incredibly special. It will be incredibly exciting to see Loki’s dragon abilities being fleshed out in the Elbaf Arc as the battles against evil rage on. Fans absolutely cannot wait to see how he performs against the sovereign of the world.

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece focuses on the journey of Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates as they sail the seas to lay claim to the grand treasure known as the One Piece. The manga is currently in its Final Saga. One Piece will be featured in this week’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue. The official release date of One Piece Chapter 1171 is January 18, 2026. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday, which is 11:00 AM EST, or 8:00 AM PT. Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump apps. Doing so will ensure that fans always support the author.
