Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday has been surrounded by a lot of negativity recently due to its release date being pushed back by seven months. However, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t still a lot of excitement for the project and what it could potentially mean moving forward for the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The cast for Avengers: Doomsday is already incredibly impressive, with some of Marvel’s most prominent stars all set to appear. However, even though a significant bulk of the cast has been confirmed, there have been rumors—which Marvel started, hinting that more stars may end up appearing. That might result in some more familiar faces turning up, including those within the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

Avengers: Doomsday’s Release Date Delay Could Be Great News For Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday release date being delayed might end up being positive news for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The characters from the popular James Gunn trilogy haven’t been seen since 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3, and without Gunn involved in Marvel Studios, it is unknown whether or not another film will be released. Marvel has confirmed Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill will return, but the future of the other characters is less clear. That includes Karen Gillan’s Nebula, who played a massive role in the last phase of the MCU due to her connection to Thanos, and she’s not ruling out the possibility of reprising the role in Avengers: Doomsday.
Gilligan told MovieWeb: “It’s so much fun working in the Marvel world… in terms of the future, can’t say anything. You know how it goes, but maybe… never say, never.”
While the likelihood of Nebula returning to the Marvel world in Avengers: Doomsday without the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy is unlikely, having the entire team make a surprise appearance would be a fun addition to the movie. The film is set to focus on different teams, with the New Avengers, The Avengers, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four all set to be part of Marvel’s next big ensemble adventure. Adding the Guardians of the Galaxy into that mix would make perfect sense, and it would be an ideal opportunity to highlight the new version of the group, which was displayed at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3.
The recent decision to delay the release of Avengers: Doomsday might have opened up the possibility of more actors being able to join the cast, but that remains to be seen. It has been claimed that the script hasn’t been fully completed yet, with certain actors not having signed an official contract to be part of the film. That might lead to more names being added as that process continues in a bid to develop Avengers: Doomsday even more, with extra stars likely to attract an even wider audience.
Nebula’s character has developed a lot over the years, with Marvel fans becoming attached to her because of that. Starting out as a villain, she has then been able to grow, with one of Marvel’s most emotional storylines, due to the treatment she received at the hands of Thanos throughout her life. Now a fully fledged hero with no problem providing blunt responses, Nebula is a character that Marvel fans would love to see more of due to how interesting she is. Whether that takes place in Avengers: Doomsday or elsewhere remains to be seen, but Gilligan certainly hasn’t closed the door on the role.
