A man dozing aboard a Manhattan subway train early Monday morning woke up to a nightmare — a belligerent straphanger who ended up stabbing him in the head.
The 56-year-old victim was sleeping on a southbound 1 train when Geovalny Alcantara, 20, sat next to him around 6:14 a.m.. The victim woke up from his slumber and had words with Alcantara at the 145 St. station in West Harlem, police sources told the Daily News.
During the argument, Alcantara stabbed the victim at least three times on the top his head, leaving the victim bleeding.
Cops patrolling the area saw the commotion and arrested Alcantara following the incident, sources said.
EMS transported the victim to Mount Sinai hospital, where he was in stable condition Monday.
Cops recovered a knife at the scene.
Alcantara was charged with felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon. It was unclear what prompted the attack.
Alcantara has three prior arrests including felony assault, fare evasion, and weapons possession. His arraignment at Manhattan criminal court was pending on Monday.
