Maxis has accidentally leaked a new The Sims 4 feature called SimSearch. The prematurely revealed functionality appears to be a new addition to the game’s Gallery, designed to improve how The Sims 4 players discover community creations.

The Sims 4’s Gallery has been part of the game since January 2020, a bit over five years after EA launched its web version. Designed as a comprehensive hub for players to upload and download in-game creations—ranging from characters and rooms to houses and entire lots—it allows users to share content without relying on mods. Over time, as new features were introduced and content accumulated, recurring issues began to surface, prompting complaints from players. Some are now calling for a complete overhaul of the Gallery.

SimSearch Reportedly Coming to The Sims 4 Gallery

Maxis may soon start answering these grievances with the introduction of a new feature called SimSearch. The developer briefly mentioned the functionality in a recent Instagram Story, stating it was already in beta, before quickly deleting the post. However, a screenshot of the announcement was captured and sent to Sims Community. According to German-language patch notes released shortly before the now-removed post, the feature was intended to launch with the November 4 The Sims 4 update. The changelog has since been edited to remove all references to SimSearch, suggesting a last-minute delay.

SimSearch May Support At Least 2 Modes

The amended German patch notes list two SimSearch modes: text-to-image and cross-language search, both described as being in an experimental beta phase. Text-to-image will use visual search—likely powered by neural networks—to find Gallery screenshots that match a user’s query. Initially, search terms will be limited to single keywords, though this restriction is planned to be lifted in future updates. Cross-language search will enable players to use their native language to discover content, significantly improving accessibility. Together, both modes aim to enhance the experience of finding high-quality results in The Sims 4’s Gallery.

Cross-language (Beta): Ideal for international Simmers. In addition to searching for specific object names, hashtags, and descriptions, you can now also search in your own language and still get the same search results displayed.

Text-to-image (Beta): Initially, this will be used with individual keywords. In this search, the Gallery is scanned for matching images based on your search term. This efficient search opens up new areas of the Gallery that you may not have encountered before.

A more powerful and accessible search function would mark a potentially significant addition to the Gallery, which fans have long been asking for EA to improve. More broadly, the leaked feature aligns with EA’s ongoing push to “supercharge” The Sims Hub and its other user-generated content platforms with AI, a commitment the company publicly made in September 2024.

Although SimSearch appears to have been pulled from the November 4 patch at the last minute, the fact it was there to begin with suggests it is likely to be introduced soon. As with other changes found in Maxis’s so-called “Laundry List” updates, SimSearch should be a free addition to The Sims 4.
