Visitors to the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto should bring their 3DS, as some exclusive StreetPass Miis can be found at the recently opened location, including the iconic Shigeru Miyamoto. While the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS officially shut down in early 2023, the console remains popular with gamers for its impressive library and nostalgic StreetPass feature.
Announced in July 2021, the Nintendo Museum finally opened in October 2024 after several delays. The unique facility is located in Uji, Kyoto, on the site of a former Nintendo playing card factory, and offers guests a unique and detailed look at the company’s past, present, and future. Featuring a Super Mario-themed plaza, several software and hardware exhibits, and a cafe, the Nintendo Museum also consistently adds new exhibitions. Earlier this month, the Nintendo Switch 2 appeared at the museum, with visitors able to take a peek at what the new system will offer. While there is plenty on offer already, a certain secret bonus has been discovered for visitors bringing their 3DS console.

Visitors to the Nintendo Museum in Japan have taken notice of a brand-new exhibit that recently appeared at its location in Kyoto.
According to Rifa, the Editor-in-Chief of Nintendo Dream Web, those bringing their 3DS to the Nintendo Museum can expect to find some exclusive StreetPass Miis, including Shigeru Miyamoto. Rifa took to Twitter to share an image of the one-of-a-kind Mii, along with the new Nintendo Switch 2 exhibit. Additionally, Rockman EXE Zone co-founder MegaRockEXE also confirmed via Twitter that guests can also find Miis of Nintendo executives Shinya Takahashi and Shuntaro Furukawa. These Miis haven’t appeared online before, implying that they are new additions to Nintendo’s ever-growing museum.

While production of the console was discontinued in 2020, the Nintendo 3DS quickly became one of the most beloved consoles of its time, boasting an incredibly varied library and offering a unique way to play games with its stereoscopic 3D imagery. Some of the most popular Nintendo 3DS titles continue to wow audiences to this day, including Metroid: Samus Returns, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Fire Emblem: Awakening. Also noteworthy was 2014’s Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, which saw the popular fighting title ported to a handheld device for the first time.
Visitors to the Nintendo Museum have a reason to dust off their 3DS ahead of the launch of Nintendo’s next console. Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders go live in the US this week, with the console set to release on June 5 alongside the highly anticipated Mario Kart World. Other day-one releases for the console include Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut, Split Fiction, and Hogwarts Legacy.
