A NYC public high school teacher was arrested Wednesday after a tip from an undercover operative in Scotland led the FBI to uncover a thumb drive containing child pornography at the educator’s Brooklyn home, according to a criminal complaint.
Joseph Taylor McKeel — who used the online handle “NYSubSlut” — was charged with possession of child pornography for the lurid trove of roughly 150 illicit images and videos, the complaint reads.
The FBI zeroed in on McKeel after undercover operatives with Scottish police tuned into a Zoom meeting in September organized by an online group, called “Just guys and football,” suspected of distributing child porn, court documents show.
Through the Zoom meeting — in which the Scottish operative observed multiple illicit images being transmitted — authorities were able to trace an IP address of user “NYSubSlut” back to McKeel, the complaint states.
That discovery led federal agents in the U.S. to obtain a warrant to search McKeel’s home, where they found the thumb drive containing the illicit images and videos on Wednesday, according to the complaint.
McKeel teaches biology at Independence High School located on 10th Ave. in Hell’s Kitchen, according to a law enforcement source.
The teacher was arraigned in Brooklyn Federal Court on Wednesday. He is being held pending the result of a bail hearing scheduled for Thursday.
