A badly decomposed corpse was discovered in a trash-filled vacant Queens lot, officials said Friday.
Police responding to a 911 call for an unconscious person near the corner of 139th St. and Hillside Ave. in Jamaica discovered a man’s remains at about 4:20 p.m. Thursday.
The unidentified man was found inside an overgrown, trash-filled lot behind a graffitied wall, according to Eyewitness News.
Based on the condition of the remains, police first thought the body had been burned, but the FDNY and the city’s Medical Examiner’s Office determined “there is no indication of burns to the deceased,” an FDNY spokesman said.
People often dump trash in the lot, which has long been considered an eyesore by locals, the outlet reported. Occasionally, residents have seen people sleeping in the lot.
Investigators were still working to identify the man, cops said. The city’s medical examiner will determine how he died.
No arrests had been made as the investigation continued Friday.
