One Piece Creator Eiichiro Oda Officially Unveils A New Legendary Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit

Devil Fruits serve as the primary power system in the world of One Piece, and Eiichiro Oda, the author of the series, is continually expanding upon them by introducing one new ability after another. One Piece Chapter 1182, which dropped officially on May 10, 2026, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 24, officially confirmed a new legendary Devil Fruit ability to the fans.

As has been the theme in the Final Saga so far, this new Devil Fruit ability also belongs to the Mythical Zoan class, which has officially been stated to be the rarest class of all in Chapter 554 of the series. Despite being so rare, Eiichiro Oda has finally unveiled the power of yet another legendary Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit in the form of the Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr.

One Piece Confirms A New Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit Called Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr

One Piece Chapter 1182 covered various events in Elbaph, and it began with the battle between Saint Nerona Imu, the King of the World who descended upon the country in Chapter 1179, and Prince Loki. Along with Prince Loki is his beloved Ragnir, who fights side by side with him at all times. Ragnir is an ally of not just Loki but the old God of War, which was officially introduced in One Piece Chapter 1175 on March 2, 2026.

According to Jarul, the histories of the Elbaph mention the existence of a certain God of War. This God of War had the ability to transform into the giant dragon Nidhoggr and had at its side the Ice Squirrel known as Ratatoskr. Together, the two fought against the Sun God of the World. When the God of War of Elbaf died, Ratatoskr then possessed his beloved hammer and came to be known as Ragnir. In One Piece Chapter 1182, it was officially confirmed that Ragnir ate the Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr. This Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit is officially said to be legendary in nature and holds the power of the mythical Ice Squirrel. As a Mythical Zoan, this fruit offers tremendous physical capabilities and durability, as well as the ability to manipulate ice.

One Piece Chapter 1182 also confirmed a direct connection between Nerona Imu and the Ratatoskr. The vast majority of the Devil Fruits that exist in the world of One Piece are eaten by humans or other races that exist. However, they are not the only wielders of Devil Fruits. Inanimate objects can also be fed Devil Fruits. This discovery was made by Vegapunk and first mentioned in the Arabasta arc in One Piece Chapter 184, which was officially released on May 28, 2001. Over the years, many other Devil Fruits have been fed to inanimate objects, such as the Zou Zou no Mi being eaten by Spandam’s sword Funkfreed. Also known as Iron Lightning, Ragnir is capable of delivering high-level electricity, bringing down lightning bolts from the sky when powered by the Nidhoggr ability. After the death of the God of War of Elbaph, the soul of the Ratatoskr somehow transferred inside Ragnir and gave it the properties of the Ice Squirrel, making it a Devil Fruit user. This likely happened at the very end of the Void Century, given that it has been officially stated in the story that Ragnir has guarded the legendary Devil Fruit of Elbaph for centuries.

Ragnir stayed inside Aurust Castle and prevented anyone from consuming this Devil Fruit ability. Ragnir possesses several incredible abilities at its disposal. To begin with, the Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr grants the power of a legendary squirrel. Zoan fruits typically have overwhelming strength, resilience, recovery rate, and defensive capabilities. The fact that this is a Mythical Zoan means that all these capabilities are shot through the roof. This also means that Ragnir’s overall defenses are boosted even further due to the very nature of this Devil Fruit ability. Just like all of the other Mythical fruits, Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr also offers a special ability. In this case, the fruit has granted it the power to produce ice.

This Devil Fruit also grants the power of flash freezing targets immediately, as seen with Loki freezing Gunko immediately in chapter 1178 of the story. It has also canonically been stated by Eiichiro Oda in chapter 1179 that anyone frozen by Ragnir cannot be unfrozen by any means, unless the squirrel itself chooses to unfreeze the target.

The Risu Risu no Mi, Model: Ratatoskr also has a unique sub-ability of producing lightning by colliding ice particles together.
