Shiny Hunting in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is significantly easier on the Nintendo Switch 2, according to players who have tested out the free update for the ninth generation of mainline games. The free Switch 2 patch for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet allows more critters to show up on the screen, making Shiny Hunts quicker than before when paired with methods like a Shiny Sandwich.
It’s no secret that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have struggled with technical problems since the games went live in November 2022. Despite being among the top-selling titles on the original Switch, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were criticized by players for long loading times, slow frame rates, and glitches that caused the games to crash without warning. However, with the launch of the Switch 2, most of the performance issues with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were addressed via a free update that took advantage of the new console’s capabilities. The games can now reach a frame rate of up to 60 FPS thanks to the additional hardware headroom.

Although the performance boost that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet got with the Switch 2 is impressive, players can also use the new system to make Shiny Hunting easier than before. On the r/PokemonScarletViolet subreddit, some Reddit users like ChaoticBlueShells and JayyQuizzleGaming shared how they used the increased performance of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to Shiny Hunt for creatures like Flutter Mane and the Ralts evolution line. In a 29-second clip, ChaoticBlueShells showed off several Flutter Mane on the screen in Area Zero, with seven of these Paradox Pokemon being Shiny. With the Switch 2 update, the number of Pokemon that can appear on-screen can reach over 30 at any time.
Shiny Hunting in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Is Easier on Switch 2
When coupled with sandwiches that grant the level 3 Sparkling Power buff for up to 30 minutes, Pokemon trainers with a Switch 2 can increase their Shiny chances significantly. In JayyQuizzleGaming’s post, they shared how they used a sandwich with a level 3 Sparking Power: Fairy buff to find two Ralts, a Kirlia, and a Gardevoir in under 30 minutes. Additionally, they were able to evolve their male Ralts into a Gallade via level-ups and a Dawn Stone with the remaining time.
Given that both Flutter Mane and the Ralts line share the Fairy-type, a Sparkling Sandwich with a Tomato and two Herba Mysticas can be prepared by Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players to increase their Shiny odds. Between that and the ongoing Porygon2 Mass Outbreak and Tera Raid events, now is an excellent time for trainers to go Shiny Hunting in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
