Presley Gerber, the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, was cremated days after his shocking death at a sober-living home in Los Angeles, according to reports. He was 27.
His parents will keep the ashes at their home in Malibu, TMZ reported, citing the death certificate. Before the cremation at Rose Family Funeral Home in Simi Valley, Calif., an autopsy was completed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, though a ruling on his cause of death has been deferred.
In a statement earlier this week, the medical examiner said “additional testing and/or studies were requested in order to make a determination,” adding it could still be months before the cause is officially confirmed. The Santa Monica Police Department has since said it is investigating the incident as a “suspected overdose.”
“At this time, there is no indication of foul play,” authorities said. “The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.”
Gerber died at the Resolutions Living sober-living home in the Los Angeles area on Sept. 20. Law enforcement responded to a report of a possible overdose and “cardiac arrest” at the facility, after which Gerber was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m., according to 911 audio reported by People.
Gerber had been open about his struggles with depression in the past. In a 2023 podcast, he said he hoped his story could help others who have the same issues.
“Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that,” he said, “I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that’s all I need to do.
“(Mental health) is an issue. It is such a big part of my life. It’s a 24/7 job, and there’s so much to it,” he continued. “That’s really what I want to do: help people, whether you’re depressed, you’re struggling with something that is having a negative effect on your body. I mean, it could be anything, and there’s no judgment.”
