Summary
Eugene and Pugsley, adorably quirky outcasts, form a promising and heartwarming duo at Nevermore.
Pugsley’s arrival at Nevermore sets the stage for his friendship with Eugene to blossom and provide support for Wednesday.
As Season 2 unfolds, Eugene and Pugsley’s unique skills will be crucial in aiding Wednesday through the murder, mystery, and horror at Nevermore.
Wednesday offered a glimpse into the worlds of Eugene Ottinger and Pugsley Addams — two endearing outcasts among outcasts. Eugene, a sweet, bee-loving psychic, attends Nevermore Academy, while Pugsley is at the normie school, Nancy Reagan High, at the start of the series. Eugene has no real friends until Wednesday arrives at Nevermore. Meanwhile, Pugsley is bullied at Nancy Reagan, which ultimately pushes Wednesday to retaliate. This incident results in her being expelled and shipped off to Nevermore.
Both Eugene and Pugsley are kind-hearted and wonderfully weird, not to mention powerful. While the first season didn’t delve deeply into Pugsley’s social life at Nancy Reagan, Wednesday Season 2 might finally give him a chance to form a genuine friendship at Nevermore — and, from the looks of it, with Eugene himself.

The Best Friendship Duos In Season 1, & What To Expect From Season 2
Right off the bat, Enid Sinclair and Wednesday take the lead as the iconic friendship duo in the first season of Wednesday. Despite their strikingly different personalities, they form a deep bond. Enid is a bright and bubbly werewolf student at Nevermore, who finally ‘wolfs out’ during a pivotal moment in the series’ finale. Wednesday is a psychic whose visions are often triggered by touch. She has the ability to see glimpses of the past and future — a power that helps her solve multiple mysteries, from unveiling the Hyde monster’s identity to dealing with the Kansas City Scalper. Enid and Wednesday get off to a rocky start, but they become nearly inseparable by the end — even if Wednesday will never admit the truth out loud. Enid’s werewolf transformation cements their bond.
Other compelling friendships on Wednesday include Wednesday’s bond with Eugene, which blossoms over their shared love for outdoor activities. Together, they team up to uncover the mystery of the cave monster. Wednesday is also good friends with Xavier Thorpe, although the dynamic is complicated by a love triangle, involving none other than the Hyde monster hiding behind the sweet facade of a barista named Tyler Galpin. Yoko Tanaka and Enid also make a promising pair, but the show does not offer much insight into their relationship. Likewise, Bianca Barclay and Wednesday, as well as Bianca and Lucas Walker, form promising pairs but need more screen time to develop better.
Eugene & Pugsley Are Wednesday Season 2’s Most Wholesome Duo
With Season 2 just around the corner, it’s time to reimagine fresh new pairings that will be introduced on screen, starting with the wholesome weirdos: Eugene and Pugsley. Pugsley is all set to join Nevermore, and with Eugene already familiar with the campus, it’s only fitting that he becomes Pugsley’s all-things-Nevermore guide. After all, both Pugsley and Eugene belong to the clan of adorable outcasts —quirky and notably lacking a social circle.
As seen in the teaser trailers, Pugsley and Eugene’s chemistry is shaping up to be one of the most heartwarming developments in Wednesday Season 2. Eugene brings naivety, casual bravado, and intelligence to the table, and Pugsley is expected to match his energy for their camaraderie to work. Together, the pair could become an effective duo, thanks to each one’s unique skills. They could also aid Wednesday, especially when Enid taunts her about being involved in a grisly murder case on day two of school.
Eugene & Pugsley: A Friendship Will Bloom On Wednesday
A lot is happening in and around Nevermore, with Season 2 turning up the dial on murder, mystery, and horror. Wednesday will undoubtedly rely on Pugsley and Eugene’s help. While Enid is a staunch Wednesday loyalist, she is also a reluctant ally, often expressing her desire to stay out of danger. The same can’t be said for Eugene, who, despite Wednesday’s warnings, decided to scout the cave alone on Rave’N night, and later left his hospital bed to help her in the finale. Pugsley, meanwhile, comes from a family that toys with trouble. As such, he will be more than happy to be trusted in the face of danger.
At one point, the duo can be seen huddled over a rectangular lab jar, endearingly observing worms. In another instance, Pugsley extends his hand to shake Eugene’s but ends up giving him an accidental electric shock, thanks to his emerging powers. Eugene yelps “Ah!” while Pugsley goes blank. In the background, Morticia observes as her youngest tries to socialize at Nevermore.
Eugene will be Pugsley’s first true peer connection at Nevermore, and Pugsley will certainly struggle to find his place at school. With Nevermore set to become even more chaotic this season, the story will count on solid friendships and budding bromances that will eventually ground Wednesday.
Wednesday Season 2 returns to Netflix in two parts, with Part 1 dropping on August 6, 2025, and Part 2 on September 3, 2025. Each part will consist of a total of four episodes, and most of the ensemble will return. Xavier Thorpe and Yoko Tanaka aren’t expected, but Sheriff Galpin will be back in a guest role.
