Squid Game gives its fans a major treat by dropping Season 3’s first teaser. Fans were relieved they finally found the answer to one of the burning questions from the second season.
Squid Game, a South Korean survival thriller, debuted in 2021. It was a massive hit and dominated Netflix’s top charts for weeks. So, it wasn’t surprising when the streaming giant decided to renew the show for two more seasons. Squid Game Season 2 was as successful as the first one. However, fans were shocked because they felt it ended abruptly, as it wrapped up after just seven episodes. Also, many were wondering what happened to Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) after losing the rebellion he started and witnessing his childhood best friend, Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan), being shot dead in front of him. Fans have finally found the answer to their question in Season 3’s teaser.

Squid Game star teases the most challenging part for them to film in the entire season and it’s in the finale.
On Monday, Squid Game announced it would drop the first teaser for the anticipated third season the next day. Fans were ecstatic after learning about Season 3’s promo coming out on Tuesday. Shortly after the teaser was released, fans flocked to Squid Game’s online accounts to watch the preview and see what’s in store for them in Season 3. After watching it, many are relieved that Gi-hun is alive and back in the game. However, it appears that he is just forced to continue with the death-defying tournament. In one scene, Gi-hun can be seen in handcuffs, restrained in one of the bed frames. Initially, there were concerns about what happened to him after Season 2 because it ended with him grieving the passing of his dear friend. No one is sure what will happen to him next, so it eases the audience to see the main protagonist alive and kicking.
The teaser also debunks some of the fan theories involving Gi-Hun. There were claims that he could be the next Front Man or be among the VIPs since he was already wealthy after winning the previous Squid Game. It appears that none of that is true. Gi-hun just resumes his previous role — being one of the players. However, the rumor that Gi-hun could die in the final season remains uncertain. He may or may not make it alive. Jung-jae said in a previous interview that his character, Gi-hun, will evolve and the audience will see how he overcomes the challenges after failing to save the others in Squid Game Season 2 by attempting to stop the game. Regardless, he assured, “Season 3 will provide clarity to many of the questions fans have.”
It’s indeed a huge relief to see Gi-hun back on his feet. However, his return to the tournament only shows that their effort to stop the game failed. Instead of freeing those who wanted to go home, some of them ended up dead. So, Gi-hun’s return may be divisive – some could blame him for the chaos in Season 2 because it wasn’t fruitful. Jung-jae said in a recent interview that the most difficult game he had to shoot throughout the entire season was the “last round that will be seen in Season 3.” This suggests that he lasts up to the last round. However, the next question is – who is the other opponent, or were there only two of them in the last battle? Fans will soon find the answer.
Squid Game Season 3 premieres on Netflix on June 27, 2025.
