A man has been charged with assaulting two straphangers in a wild knife attack at the Grand Central subway station, police said Thursday.
Gavin Ferguson, 30, of the Bronx, was charged with attempted murder and felony assault.
He fled the scene after yesterday morning’s confrontation but was later spotted by an officer a few blocks away on Second Ave. near E. 40th St.
Police said the suspect stabbed and wounded a 28-year-old man, then attacked a second man, 32, who intervened.
The younger victim was on a No. 5 train when he got into a heated argument with the suspect as the subway neared Grand Central early Wednesday around 7:20 a.m.
The two got off the train and their argument spilled out onto the Grand Central-42nd St. station’s mezzanine level. As the pair came to blows and a knife was pulled, a 32-year-old good Samaritan tried to break up the fight, police said.
The victim involved in the dispute was stabbed in the abdomen while the bystander who jumped in, for his trouble, was knifed in the upper body and buttocks, police said. Medics took both victims to Bellevue Hospital Center in stable condition.
Ferguson has no prior arrests, police said. It’s not clear what sparked the argument with the younger victim.
