Best Simple Phones In 2025: Stay Connected, Stay Focused

Not everyone needs their phone to be a pocket-sized NASA control center. For some, it’s about calling, texting, and maybe the occasional photo, without a million apps screaming for attention. While we’re still in smartphone territory here, this guide is all about the ones that keep things easy. Clean software, clutter-free design, reliable performance, and enough features to get through your day without turning your phone into a second job.

Whether you’re shopping for someone who’s not too tech-savvy, trying to minimize distractions, or just want a no-nonsense device that works, these phones get the job done without trying too hard. Most of them still pack modern perks like 5G, decent cameras, and sharp displays, but they won’t drown you in bloatware or need three updates a week. If a simple, functional, and user-friendly mobile sounds like your kind of spec sheet, you’re in the right place.

Explore our expert picks for the best 5G phones to find your perfect match, providing high-speed connectivity and performance.

1

CMF Phone 1

CMF Phone 1 on a black gradient background.

So for the unitiated, Nothing came out with a sub-brand a while ago that more or less has the same design philosophy. The CMF Phone 1 comes with a nice 6.67-inch AMOLED and 120Hz scrolling. The visible screws and customizable design make this the anti-iPhone in the best way possible. MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300 is going to handle all your everyday tasks without complaint, and the 8GB physical RAM (expandable to 16GB virtually) paired with 256GB storage feels generous at this price point, especially with microSD support up to 2TB.

The 5000mAh cell easily pushes two days with normal use. The 50MP main camera takes decent shots in good lighting, though low-light performance reminds you where corners were cut. Nothing OS (built on Android 14) remains refreshingly clean compared to bloated budget alternatives. The aluminum and stainless steel accents give it a nice, premium finish. Also there is no charger included, minimal water resistance, a single mediocre speaker, and no NFC for contactless payments. But if you value thoughtful design, repairability, and battery life over raw performance, the CMF Phone 1 punches well above its weight class.

Moto G 5G (2024)

Moto G 5G (2024) on a black gradient background.

Motorola’s latest G 5G strikes a sweet balance between features and affordability. We’ve got a 6.6-inch display, 120Hz scrolling again, only this time the phone comes with a 720p resolution, which probably won’t impress a lot of people. The eco-leather back adds an unexpected touch of class, though, so that’s sort of cool. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 is great, and the 4GB RAM is somewhat adequate. Storage is covered with 128GB built-in plus microSD expansion.

The battery life clocks in at 5000mAh cell, and is powered by 18W charging speeds. The 50MP main camera sensor is quite decent nice daylight shots, same as the CMF. The stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support throw in an unexpected but welcome surprise, and keeping the 3.5mm headphone jack was straight up a boss move. The water-repellent design provides peace of mind against light splashes, though there’s no official IP rating, so I wouldn’t recommend this one to our scuba-inclined readers.

Nokia 105 4G

Nokia 105 4G on a black gradient background.

The Nokia 105 4G is deliberately basic in the best possible way. No touchscreen, no camera, no apps, just a simple, reliable phone that handles calls and texts with zero fuss. The 1.8-inch display is purely functional, showing contacts and messages in a readable format. What it lacks in features, it makes up for in practicality. The removable 1450mAh battery delivers days of standby time, and the plastic body can survive drops that would shatter glass smartphones.

At just 93g, you’ll barely notice it in your pocket. The upgrade to 4G connectivity means crystal-clear calls even as carriers phase out older networks. The wireless FM radio works without headphones (unlike most phones), and the inclusion of both Bluetooth 5.0 and a headphone jack proves Nokia thought about the details. USB-C charging is a welcome modern touch, while expandable storage via microSD handles the minimal storage needs of a feature phone. And, you get to play the snake game in all its glory, so really, the Nokia is the winner here.

OnePlus Nord N30 5G

OnePlus Nord N30 5G on a gradient background.

OnePlus is basically the Kingpin of the mid-range market. It came into peak hype a decade ago and hasn’t stopped since. The Nord N30 gives you a good idea of what a decent budget can get you in the Android world. The 6.72-inch LCD pushes 1080p resolution with 120Hz refresh, and we have a wonderful 8GB RAM paired with Snapdragon 695 ensures smooth performance for everyday tasks and casual gaming.

This is legit one of the best camera phones in the market right now, with the 108MP main sensor stealing the show. The 5000mAh battery handles a full day easily, while the included 50W SUPERVOOC charger refills it faster than many flagships. Keeping the 3.5mm headphone jack, is again a commendable move, so is the expandable storage up to 1TB. Unlike other budget phones, OxygenOS (based on Android 13) makes sure that there’s minimal to no bloat, and the dual stereo speakers are more than loud enough. As long as you ignore the side-mounted fingerprint sensor and the fact that this has no official water resistance rating, you’re golden.

5

iPhone 11

iPhone 11 on a grey gradient background.

Despite its 2019 release, the iPhone 11 has somehow managed to be relevant. The 6.1-inch Liquid Retina display still looks sharp in everyday use, even if it lacks the contrast of newer OLED screens. The A13 Bionic chipset continues to handle modern apps with ease. Camera capabilities hold up remarkably well, with that dual 12MP setup (wide + ultra-wide) capturing natural colors and excellent video.

Battery life comfortably lasts a day for most users, though the included 5W charger feels painfully slow in 2025. iOS updates remain the iPhone 11’s secret weapon; It still receives the latest features and security patches, extending its usable life far beyond similarly-aged Android devices. The IP68 rating means accidental spills and rain won’t spell disaster. The reason I went for this over the iPhone SE is that it’s not very much available at major retailers at the moment. But if you happen to spot a 2nd or 3rd gen SE, then you’re more than welcome to swap this out for that.

Vertu Ironflip Calfskin

Vertu Ironflip Calfskin on a grey gradient.

What if you wanted a phone that was simple, but at the same time, looked and felt luxurious? I’ve got you covered. The Ironflip screams “rich” in ways most phones don’t dare. Wrapped in calfskin leather with sapphire crystal and steel accents, it’s jewelry that happens to make calls. The 6.9-inch flexible OLED looks sharp, though the truly unique touch is that watch-like secondary display when closed.

Performance keeps pace with the premium vibe. Snapdragon power, 12GB RAM and 512GB storage handle whatever you throw at it. The 50MP camera is decent, but photography clearly wasn’t the primary focus here. Where the Ironflip shines is its blend of Android with Web 3.0 capabilities through the custom Ghost OS layer. Battery life is a joke considering what you’re paying (4310mAh cell), but the 65W charging means minimal downtime. The one-year personal concierge service is legitimately cool if you’re the type who needs last-minute reservations or travel arrangements. At approximately $5,500, this isn’t going neck-to-neck with mainstream flagships, but then again, you’re paying for the complicated craftsmanship and the simple specs.
