A Bronx man who was dragged down the street trying to stop a carjacker from stealing his car may need to have his leg amputated after losing his grip and falling to the ground, a police source said.
The 32-year-old victim left his Infiniti Q50 in front of a deli on Westchester Ave. in Pelham Bay while he stopped to quickly pick up some food, but ran back when he saw someone hop in the driver’s seat shortly before noon on Thursday, according to police.
Video obtained by the Daily News shows the victim’s dark-colored sedan double-parked on Westchester Ave. at around 11:55 a.m., when a silver SUV pulls up and stops beside it. The suspect, dressed in dark clothing, exits from the rear passenger side of the SUV before quickly slipping into the victim’s car.
The victim is seen simultaneously sprinting from a nearby business and jumping on the driver’s-side door of his car before the thief speeds away, making a right onto Wilkinson Ave.
The suspect drove with the victim clinging to the door for less than a block before the suspect sideswiped a parked car on Wilkinson Ave. — possibly on purpose — knocking the victim onto the street, a police source said.

EMS transported the victim to Jacobi Hospital with head trauma and a fractured leg. He remains in critical condition and may be facing amputation of his damaged limb, according to a police source.
A relative of the victim told the Daily News Saturday morning that he was “in surgery” but declined to comment further.
After the victim fell off, the carjacker kept driving south on Westchester Ave. The victim’s car, a 2017 Infiniti Q50, was later found abandoned along the Hutchinson River Parkway.

A Pelham Bay resident said the violent theft was not surprising for the area.
“This has absolutely happened before,” said David, 58. “There have been multiple times last year, the year before that, of attempted car robberies. Also, I think there was a carjacking as well.”
The suspect was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, green shorts and white sneakers.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
