Call of Duty Could Be Adding Seth Rogen

Summary

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 may feature Seth Rogen as a playable character, hinted in a teaser at the end of a recent ad.

The franchise’s focus has shifted towards surreal cosmetics, impacting the player base’s perception and identity of the game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players may soon be hearing a famous laugh in their matches, as it’s rumored that Canadian actor and comedian Seth Rogen may be getting his own skin in the game. The rumor, which stems from a teaser at the end of an ad for a pair of kindred skins, could add yet another unexpected crossover character to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, continuing the franchise’s trend of adding pop culture skins.

While the Call of Duty franchise’s earlier releases may have been a history-focused simulator of World War II, the series has evolved over time into an over-the-top fest of explosions, bullets, and sci-fi-tinged equipment. As it’s drifted farther and farther away from its initial grounded, military feel in gameplay, so too has its cosmetics, which seem to be increasingly surreal in nature. This has recently led to a repetitive skin theme that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players aren’t happy with, which Call of Duty seems to be doubling down on.

Call of Duty fans want the popular Nuketown map to be expanded in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, following the release of the Chaos Nuketown mode.

Seth Rogen’s rumored addition to Call of Duty comes by way of a video featuring Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Jay and Silent Bob skins, featuring the actual actors themselves, Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith. The clip starts off with Jay correcting Silent Bob to play the “420 way” instead of being a “try-hard.” Overlayed with a smoke effect, it shows the Jay and Silent Bob operators emoting, playing Prop Hunt, and more. The clip ends with a player called CanadianSmokeMonster joining their lobby, coupled with Seth Rogen’s unmistakable chuckle, causing the pair to suddenly look at each other.

Should the potential teaser materialize into Rogen becoming a playable character, he would join Jay, Silent Bob, and a whole host of other stoner or otherwise cannabis-related cosmetics. While a certain segment of the Call of Duty franchise’s player base seems keen on the particular theme, other players have voiced their complaints that these and other types of fantastical skins are robbing the series of its identity. The series’ criticism hasn’t fallen on deaf ears, with Activision possibly reconsidering unrealistic operator skins.

Seth Rogen’s Possible Call of Duty Debut

Considering the context of the possible teaser, it’s certainly plausible that Seth Rogen could appear as Dale Denton, his character from the film Pineapple Express, though Rogen’s propensity for cannabis could have him appearing as himself. While Rogen is no stranger to video game IP, famously voicing Donkey Kong in the Super Mario Bros Movie, this could very well be the first time his actual likeness appears in a Triple-A game.
