A 33-year-old man was stabbed to death inside a Washington Heights homeless shelter — and a fellow resident was arrested for his murder, police said Monday.
Nicholas Ahmad was stabbed multiple times in the chest during an argument with his killer at Project Renewal’s Fort Washington Men’s Shelter on W. 168th St. near Fort Washington Ave. about 11:45 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Medics rushed Ahmad to Harlem Hospital, where he later died, cops said.
Javed Tyghter, 29, was taken into custody at the scene and charged with murder.
Both men were living at the shelter, police said.
“Yesterday’s incident was tragic, and our thoughts are with all those impacted,” a Project Renewal spokesperson said. “Our priority remains the health and safety of the people we serve and our staff.”
The non-profit operates the shelter under contract with the city’s Department of Homeless Services.
