Here are some of the companies making headlines in midday trading. Energy stocks – Oil prices jumped after Iran ramped up its attacks on tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Marathon Petroleum and APA were last up more than 4%. Diamondback Energy gained 3% and Chevron jumped more than 2%. Chipotle Mexican Grill , Starbucks – The Financial Times reported that the coffee giant has explored acquiring the burrito chain, sending Chipotle shares up more than 6%. Starbucks was last down 5% on the day. Skydance — The newly formed company from the Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery deal traded more than 4% higher after co-CEO David Ellison told CNBC the media giant is “positioned to win in every single vertical that we operate in.” Levi Strauss – Shares of the denim company fell for a second straight day after Levi cut its full-year net revenue growth forecast to 7%, the lower end of its previously provided call for a 7% to 7.5% increase. Levi last traded down 3%. Artificial intelligence stocks – The iShares AI Innovation and Tech Active ETF (BAI) headed for a second straight losing session, off more than 1% on the day as investors took a risk-off posture. Photonics stocks Coherent and Lumentum lost 5% and 3%, respectively. Data center power play Bloom Energy slid nearly 5%. GlobalFoundries – The semiconductor manufacturer gained nearly 5% after announcing a multiyear, $2 billion manufacturing agreement with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company to produce silicon interposers. Production is expected to begin in the first half of 2028. Haemonetics — The blood and plasma provider popped 16% after CSL expects to complete the rollout of Haemonetics’ plasmapheresis platform across the U.S. by the end of 2027. Broadcom — The chipmaker traded 1% lower. The company is working to arrange more than $50 billion in financing tied to the custom AI chips it is developing with OpenAI, according to a Wall Street Journal report . Applied Digital — Applied Digital fell nearly 2%, weighed down by a sell-off in the AI trade. Shares slid even as the company reported fiscal first-quarter revenue of nearly $342 million, up 322% year over year. Its AI data-center business ramped sharply. CEO Wes Cummins recently said a Tier 1 hyperscaler is developing a roughly 1-GW self-build data center in North Dakota, further highlighting demand for AI infrastructure in the state. Palantir Technologies — The software giant rose more than 2%, bucking the broader market trend, after Goldman Sachs upgraded the stock to buy. “The [total addressable market] may be setting up for another step function change in depth, because of the shift to sovereign AI, bespoke applications, and Palantir … has sustained itself even with competitor investments,” analysts at the bank said. CNBC’s Fred Imbert, Michelle Fox and Nick Wells contributed reporting.
