Some Persona fans are becoming hopeful for remasters or remakes of the first two, or technically even three, games in the franchise, with rumors that a new line of merchandise could be hinting at something even bigger coming down the pipeline. Persona didn’t really pick up steam in the western world until at least midway through its run, and there are plenty of players who seem excited about the possibility of seeing where it all began.
Itself a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei RPG series originally developed and produced by Atlus, the Persona series follows the lives of everyday Japanese high school students who take control of Personas, reflections of their true selves that manifest in the form of magic-wielding historical or mythological figures. Balancing dungeon delving with school work and social lives in the modern world, the stories told through the Persona games have been captivating players since 1996, although a large portion of the fan base has never played anything released before Persona 3, due to the earlier games’ availability and age.

Persona Clothing Line May Be Hinting at New Remasters
Some fans are hopeful that this could change soon, and they’re basing that hope on a new line of clothing and other merchandise that’s been released in celebration of Persona’s 30th anniversary. This collection of shirts, hats, coffee mugs, and more has its own special page on Amazon, featuring artwork based on characters from all five games in the series. But the thing that’s leading some fans to believe that remasters or remakes are on their way is how these items are named. Merchandise based on the early games is all labeled with the titles “Persona 1 Origins” or “Persona 2 Duality,” although the games they’re based on are officially named Revelations: Persona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, as the second entry was split between two separate games released in 1999 and 2000, respectively.
There has been no official word from Atlus or P-Studio that any of these games are being remade or remastered, but these unconventional merchandise names aren’t the only things that make fans believe they could be in the works. In the years following the explosive success of Persona 5 in 2016, multiple spin-offs covering different genres were released, including dancing rhythm game Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, tactical RPG Persona 5 Tactica, and action-RPG Persona 5 Strikers. While getting a lot of extra mileage out of Joker and his friends, the publisher also capitalized on the success of older games in the series, releasing modern-day ports of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden, along with the 2024 release of the remake Persona 3 Reload.
The thought of bringing the first few games in the Persona series to new audiences isn’t a brand-new concept, and it seems to be something that officials at Atlus and P-Studio have been tossing around for at least a few years. Kazuhisa Wada, general producer of the game series, commented on the possibility of remakes of Persona 1 and 2 back in September 2024. In that statement, he said that remaking those games is a project he’d like to undertake someday, although they were not among the games he was immediately working on at the time.

While the clothing line’s names may be raising some eyebrows, fans should temper their expectations until official remakes or remasters of the older Persona games are officially announced. What they can look forward to with certainty is the upcoming release of Persona 4 Revival, a full remake of the game centered around the Midnight Channel and the small town of Inaba, which was first announced in June 2025 and does not yet have an official release date.
