A man has been charged with assault for fatally punching a 55-year-old victim in the face after he bumped into the assailant on a Penn Station subway platform, sources familiar with the incident said Sunday.
Nassadir Tate, 21, of Hillside Township, N.J., was arrested by police Sunday and charged with assault, according to a police source.
Tate and the victim were walking near each other when the victim bumped into the attacker on the uptown C and E platform at about 6:55 p.m. on Saturday, sparking an argument, cops said.
Tate allegedly punched the victim once in the face and walked off, police said. The stunned victim dropped to the floor about five minutes later.
Cops found the victim unconscious and medics took him to Lenox Hill Hospital, where he died. Police have not yet released his name.
The city medical examiner’s office will determine his exact cause of death.
On Sunday, police took Tate into custody, calling him a “person of interest.” Tate has been charged with assault, according to a police source.
Tate has never been arrested before, the source said.
The arrest came after police distributed the puncher’s photo to officers to be on the lookout, sources said.
